EMDR

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing" is a therapeutic modality developed by Francine Shapiro for working with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

In cases of trauma, certain images and thoughts become stuck in our minds. Every time this information surfaces in the conscious mind, the result is that the associated (traumatic) emotional state is triggered.

People experiencing trauma are, in effect, being re-traumatised each time the blocked thoughts and images enter their minds. This happens while dreaming as well as during daily life.

The EMDR technique allows for this material to be processed and released from the mind. Further, this technique addresses the beliefs, thoughts and emotions attached to the material itself.

Aside from trauma work, EMDR is extremely effective as a tool for general belief change and clearing of emotional patterns.
